WHAT: It’s a Party! The ReFresh Farmer’s Market, a year-round, weekly Farmer’s Market, is proudly announcing the debut of Market Match for our customers. About Market Match: Market Match is a unique and effective program to address healthy food access across America. Since 2008, Market Match has helped the Crescent City Farmers Market to increase SNAP purchases by 348%! The program increases the buying power of shoppers using SNAP benefits (formerly called ‘food stamps’) and passes the financial benefit on to Louisiana’s farmers and fresh food purveyors. It is truly a program that addresses our food system on many levels. This funding is made possible with the help of Market Umbrella, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and grant support from the USDA’s Food Insecurity Nutrition Incentive (FINI) program.
About The ReFresh Farmer’s Market: The ReFresh Farmer’s Market is a weekly farmer’s market serving the Broad Street Corridor. Our market brings together farmers from the neighborhood and the Greater New Orleans area to get healthy, local food to our community and to provide opportunities for Louisiana’s farmers to grow their operations sustainably and with community in mind. Our market also offers aggregated local products from Louisiana such as beef, pork, tofu, and flowers. The ReFresh Farmer’s Market has been serving the neighborhood for nearly three years and continues to grow in size and diversity of products. We accept SNAP benefits and many of our vendors accept WIC vouchers. Special thanks to People’s Health for their generous support of this event.
About Market Umbrella/ CCFM:
Market Umbrella is the nonprofit that operates the Crescent City Farmers Market and food access programming that serves vulnerable communities in New Orleans. The markets, programs and partnership with ReFresh are a reflection of Market Umbrella’s mission to cultivate public markets for public good. Market Umbrella works with vendors, other markets and the community to grow a vibrant local food system. With support from USDA’s FINI program we are able to help low-income shoppers stretch their food budgets and have improved access to high quality, locally grown fruits and vegetables.
